Spear Thistle (Cirsium vulgare)

One of the commonest wild plants, and always spectacular as long as you don't need to touch it! It is also the true thistle of Scotland, not Cotton Thistle (Onopordum acanthium) sold by the horticultural trade as Scotch Thistle, which is not native to Scotland, let alone widespread outside gardens.
