The building dates from approximately 1886, and the first recorded licensee of had been Arthur Thomas Towlson in 189o. Pubs reopened on 4 July, after the easing of the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown on 4 July, dubbed as 'Super Saturday' by some tabloids. Safety measures such as hand sanitising stations and social distancing had been put in place, with screens now separating tables in the interior of some pubs while others had installed so-called dining-pods, ie perspex domes at their outside dining areas.
