The quintain on the village green at Offham is a unique survival. The aim was to hit the right hand board with a lance and get the point in one of the holes without being hit by the weight to the left (usually a sandbag) as it swung round. An ability to duck quickly as well as agility were required. If the rider managed to break the board then he was regarded as the champion for the day. A nearby information plaque explains this - see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6518231
