This has taken a battering, from the day it was carved, Leeming Lane got busier and busier, until hundreds of motor vehicles were passing by daily, meanwhile behind the road, the flat field that once belonged to the farm here became an airbase in WW2, and later continued as an operational base for Tornados. Leeming Lane was eventually bypassed by the A1 & A1M further to the west, allowing the casual benchmark spotter to approach under his own steam and on two wheels.
