Rachan Junction, former Talla railway

The junction from which the railway line up to Talla left the Peebles line. Built in 1895-97 for the construction of the Talla Reservoir, the line followed the Tweed southwards, crossing the river at Tweedsmuir for the last section to the Talla valley. The reservoir was formally opened in September 1905 and the Talla line closed in 1910, the rails being uplifted in 1912. The line is shown on contemporary OS 6" maps as the 'Edinburgh & District Water Trust Service Railway'.
