Before the A911 was built the main route from Glenrothes to Levenmouth passed through Milton of Balgonie. The A911 bypassed the village resulting in a rerouting of Balfour Place which can be seen in this image. Balfour Place now curves left to join the A911 just out of shot. Previously Balfour Place continued straight on (where the blue sign on the lamp post is) and that part is now a pedestrian and cycle path.
