Following the Covid-19 pandemic these became a source of concern and comment as Trusts began to run into problems with their oxygen supply. The assembly is known as a vacuum insulated evaporator and stores cryogenic liquid oxygen. As the wards use oxygen it passes into an evaporator section and is revaporised to replace the gas being used. In some hospitals the rate of usage threatened to exceed the capacity to vaporise and risked crashing the oxygen pressure. Nobody ever thought that the limits would be reached in normal usage, but this wasn't normal. I am not aware that Worcestershire had oxygen problems (some London hospitals did). Behind are the boiler house and the Tradebe incinerator. The latter is an energy from waste plant but is only recovering heat rather than also generating electricity.
