The road used to cross the LNWR's Heaton Lodge to Wortley line (Leeds New Line) at this point. Passenger services ceased on this line in 1953 and it was closed some time in the 1960s. The railway cutting has been filled in, and a sign near the bridge indicated that the land has been purchased for a prospective housing development.
