A black and white shot from a footpath in the middle of a field of young sweetcorn plants. The terrain which dictated the engineering of the railway line is well illustrated here: in the background is one of three interlocking spurs of high ground which the railway had to burrow through, in two cases via long tunnels and in one via a very deep cutting. Here, the train emerged from the gloom of Fawley tunnel straight onto Ballingham viaduct, and the sudden sunlight and spectacular view must have been a bit of a shock on a fine day!
