The Platform 1 down (northbound) starting signal with the subsidiary arm raised to permit a train to enter the carriage sidings. The signal is unusual insofar as the two arms are set much closer together than normally permitted, almost touching when the subsidiary arm is raised; this is to make sighting easier from under the station canopy. Barrow-in-Furness Signal Box is in the background.
