The Belle Tout Lighthouse is a decommissioned lighthouse near Beachy Head; now an up-market B&B. Construction of a permanent granite lighthouse on the chalk cliffs at Beachy Head began in 1829 to a design by Thomas Stevenson and it became operational on 11 October 1834. It was replaced in 1902 by the Beachy Head lighthouse at the foot of the cliffs. In 1999, the Grade II listed building was moved in one piece to prevent it from succumbing to coastal erosion.
