Canal at Whittington Bridge in Staffordshire

Looking north-west towards Whittington Bridge. The bridge carries Fisherwick Road. About a hundred metres north of the bridge the canal reverts to being the Coventry Canal. This section of the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal was opened by 1789 along a route planned by the Coventry Canal Company, but delayed because of lack of money. This is the reason why several miles of canal between Fazeley and Whittington have un-numbered bridges. The section ends a short distance north of Whittington Bridge. It is all now considered as part of the Coventry Canal.
