Great Tower, Monmouth Castle

It was probably in this tower that Henry V was born in 1387. The castle at that time belonged to his grandfather, John of Gaunt. Henry became Prince of Wales when his father seized the throne from Richard II and succeeded to the throne in 1413 at the age of 26.
