Archimedean screw hydro turbine at Penbank Lock

Penbank lock is one of four locks on the original 1702 route of the Wakefield branch of the Aire & Calder navigation. It was widened in 1813. The whole of this river section was effectively bypassed when the A&CN opened the Stanley Ferry cut in 1839. The hydro turbine has been installed between 2010 and 2020.
