Wedderburn House

An example of an eighteenth century gentleman's country house now lost in 20th century residential development. The house dates from 1786 when it was built for Alexander Wedderburn MP, who was Lord Chancellor from 1793 - 1801. From his splendid residence he could look out across the Stray towards High Harrogate and St John's Well. Wedderburn paid for the building of a proper 'pump room' on the site of the well [see photo in this square http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/647456].
