Looking along Blackett Street. Eldon Square shopping centre is across the road on the left. The street is normally busy with buses, shoppers and other people, however the COVID-19 outbreak in the first months of 2020 and the government restrictions introduced in an effort to control the pandemic which prevented all but essential travel and forced all shops except those selling essential supplies to close left the city centre deserted and only a skeleton bus service remaining. The digital advertising screens on the bus shelters are displaying a message in support of NHS staff, who were playing an important role in caring for those suffering from the worst effects of the disease.
