Ing, not Ings, whatever the map says. "Ing" is Yorkshire dialect for land that floods regularly along a river, for instance when the snow melts on the Pennines. This area is between the River Calder and the Calder & Hebble canal, just east of the Doncaster Road. Despite being very close to the city centre, it has never been built on because of the flood risk, although there was a rope walk here in the 1800s.
