The Wheatsheaf public house on the corner of Market Street and Tower Street is closed for business on this sunny warm weekday lunchtime. On Monday 23 March 2020 all non-essential shops were closed by law, and people were instructed to stay at home because of the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic. Three days earlier, all public houses, clubs, and restaurants were told to close until further notice. Food shops, pharmacies and pet supply shops stayed open. In this image (on 7 May), it is lunchtime on a sunny warm spring weekday and the city centre is almost deserted.
