Looking north towards Princess Street. On Monday 23 March 2020 all non-essential shops were closed by law, and people were instructed to stay at home because of the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic. Three days earlier, all public houses, clubs, and restaurants were told to close until further notice. Food shops, pharmacies and pet supply shops stayed open. In this image, it is lunchtime on a sunny warm spring weekday and the city centre is almost deserted because of the lockdown regulations during the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic. The closed Wheatsheaf public house is on the right.
