The Blue Bell public house, which is located on The Green, was bedecked with Union Flags to commemorate the 75th. anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE Day) on May 8th., 1945, when the Second World War ended in Europe following the capitulation of German forces. The pub dates from the 1890s. When this photo was taken, it was unfortunately temporarily closed due to the lockdown imposed by the British government on March 23rd., 2020, in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The social distancing restrictions and resulting suspension of large public gatherings meant that previous plans to mark the VE Day anniversary with events such as parades, church services and 1940s-themed street parties unfortunately had to be cancelled.
