The Butterlump Stone near Newtownards

Large basalt erratic on the shore of Strangford Lough close to the main A20 road south of Newtownards. The rock is thought to have been deposited here from (what is now) Scotland in the last ice age; it rests on Triassic sandstone and probably weighs around 36 tons. Evangelicals periodically daub their own curious graffiti on one face.
