Looking up the (now disused) Wrekin Rifle range, in the opposite direction to Image The range dates from the late 19th century, and was used primarily by the King's Shropshire Light Infantry throughout the periods of the Boer, First and Second World Wars. Latterly, up until at least the late 1970s, it was still in use by local Army Cadets and a nearby rifle club. Most recently in 2017, it was designated as a Scheduled Monument https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1445909, as a relatively rare complete survival of its type. The target gallery, at the point where the trees narrow in, was given a Grade II listing at the same time https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1445567
