The stall is an initiative during the coronavirus pandemic by a local schoolboy. It is somewhere for people to leave gifts of food, toys, games, Cds, DVDs or whatever for whoever needs to take. No donations or swaps are required. The mini roundabout in the background was built in 2006 and the clock from the former James North factory was installed thereon. James North's was a multi-national safety apparatus and clothing manufacturer who operated out of a huge cotton mill in Hyde. The firm patented the PVC glove in 1947 and they were commissioned to make gauntlet gloves for Sir Ernest Shackleton’s great Antarctic expedition. After the firm closed down, the mill was demolished and an estate of houses built on the site. The clock on the top of the mill tower has since been re-erected on this roundabout. The road into the estate opposite is called James Drive.
