These three former marine buoys covered in historic railway poster-style images of the North Tyneside coast are sited just after the toll plaza at the northern exit to the Tyne Tunnel. The 10ft (3.1 metre) high buoys were hand-painted by Jarrow artist Lynda Nelson in 2011 and show a surfer, St Mary's Lighthouse and Tynemouth Priory (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-14436258 BBC News).
