Cambridge Museum of Technology - the ash railway

This is a reconstruction of the site's ash railway winch house. Ash from the boiler was hauled up an incline and dumped. The railway had been lost by the time the Cambridge Museum of Technology was founded but it has been recreated. The motive power is this John H Wilson horizontal duplex steam winch that was originally used at Tilmanstone Colliery in Kent. Since this was taken the house has been completed with low brick walls with glazing above. This rather open view is no longer possible.
