This culvert carries this unnamed stream a short distance beneath the Northern Promenade which then discharges onto Whitley Bay beach. Originally, it would seem that this stream drained the farmland belonging to Whitley Lodge Farm lying immediately to the west and on which Whitley Lodge Estate is now built. The view in the opposite direction can be seen at https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6440159.
