The RLH type was London Transport's post war bus for use on routes with height restrictions. Rather than develop a variant of the standard RT bus for a small number of buses, they purchased an off-the-shelf type – AEC Regent III with bodywork by Weymann – a total of 76 being delivered in 1950 and 1952. They ran on a small selection of routes in both the urban red livery (24) and the green 'London Country' style (52). Route 178 between Clapton Pond and Stratford was the last of the central area routes to use RLHs, in 1971. This https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5077231 was the offending low bridge – now even more restricted (13 ft) than in RLH days (13 ft 6 ins).
