Merchant Navy Class 35030 'Elder Dempster Lines' was the last of the class to be built. The Bournemouth line was the last major line of the former Southern Railway to see express steam haulage, lasting to the electrification of the line in 1967. The unusual station roof survives, but the fine lattice semaphore signals were replaced as part of the electrification scheme.
