Public Footpath, Whitley Bay

This public footpath leads from the Whitley Bay to Old Hartley road (A193) to Astley Drive, and is flanked to the west by Whitley Bay Golf Course and on the east by, initially, Whitley Bay Cemetery and thence the rear of houses on Astley Drive. When the first Ordnance Survey Six-Inch map of the area was published in 1865 neither cemetery nor housing where in existence, the land then being within the boundary of Hartley South Farm.
