At that stage still operated as normal block sections from a signal box, complete with signals. today the train guard performs signalman duties as well as his train duties. At this time the station was on a siding following the replacement of steam traction by diesel multiple units, prior to which there was a loop to allow locomotives to run round their train. The second track carried on to Moorswater for the quarry traffic. Today there is a single track through the station to the cement terminal at Moorswater beyond the viaduct, which carries the west of England main line over the valley.
