Towards the city centre from Lake View park, 1973

The subject of this view is taken as being the hump in the centre, adjacent to Four Pounds Avenue. The landmarks on the skyline, from left to right are: The leftmost tower blocks are residential blocks lining the ring road in the city centre. To their right are the horizontal lines of the Alvis factory (a retail park now stands on its site) and the metal chimney which I believe was also associated with the factory. Next is the spire of St Osburg's Church on Holyhead Road and to its right the former Godiva Hotel. Faintly visible between the hotel and the shrubs is the upper part of Hillman House residential tower block in the city centre. Next are the two spires of Holy Trinity and St Michael's, then Mercia House residential tower block at the bottom of the Precinct. Faintly seen in the distance is the upper part of Civic Centre 4 (recently built in 1973 but demolished in 2019). The rightmost tower block is Meadow House residential block in Spon Street, next to the ring road. Lastly, an industrial chimney which may have been at the Renold Chain factory (formerly Coventry Chain) in Spon End.
