The Cornelian cherry is a species of Dogwood introduced from Southern Europe. It is variable, some individuals produced very elongated fruit, others nearly spherical ones as here. See Image for a view of the fruit It is unusual to see it grown as a pavement tree, but I don't know why. It has a flush of tiny blossom in late winter, and spectacular fruits in late summer.
