Recent clearance of vegetation has opened up this view of the old station which was served by the Great Eastern Railway's branch from Cambridge (Barnwell Junction) to Mildenhall via Fordham. The line opened in 1884 and closed completely in 1964, the last passenger service being withdrawn in 1962. Originally named Bottisham though located nearly two miles north of that village at the north end of Lode, the station was renamed after Lode became a separate parish in the 1890s. Simon Bradley's 2014 revision of Pevsner's guide notes the red brick station house with its half-hip-roofed cross wing.
