Abbey Ponds

Abbey Ponds are two ponds split by a causeway in the middle. In the past, before the flood defences were improved, the river used to flood Plumstead and Erith Marshes and come right up to what is now Abbey Road. Where Abbey Ponds are now was a place for boats to moor at high tide. This is the northern of the two ponds seen from the new pond dipping platform. Beyond are the houses of Abbey Road.
