Bournemouth: threefold sculpture

This sculpture, which was presented by the Mayor and Mayoress of Bournemouth in 1998, has three things to commemorate: Firstly, Lewis Tregonwell (facing us) who founded Bournemouth in 1811; Secondly, C.C. Creeke, the borough’s first Town Surveyor and Inspector of Nuisances; Thirdly, the three local holders of the Victoria Cross – their names are on the scroll being held by Tregonwell, namely Cpl. C.R. Noble; Sgt. F.C. Riggs; Lt. Col. D.A. Seagrim. Mr Creeke is depicted sitting on a lavatory (see Image), representing his role as Inspector of Nuisances. Below Tregonwell is Image The Image is beyond.
