Seen here from across the Image, the BIC was opened in 1985 as a top conference facility for the town. It attracts major bands and entertainers, as well as the major political parties’ conferences on a frequent basis. It also featured a large public swimming pool, but, owing to a decrease in numbers using it, it was converted to a further conference hall in 2005. See also Image The building in front of it, Court Royal, has an interesting use: it became a convalescent home for south Wales miners in 1946 and still carries out that function. This may be a factor as to why this building was spared back in the early 80s when the BIC was built, while entire roads of similar buildings were sacrificed.
