The By Brook is a particularly popular source of power; mills of various types have been taking the waters for centuries - indeed, it may be that the Romans were first to do so. The present structures of Slaughterford Mill are many and varied, being as it was once a fulling mill then, in its last incarnation, a paper mill. The upper block-built structure looks over the lower stone wall.
