Willington Dene is at the east end of Wallsend. The stream called The Gut runs along the bottom. The huge structure of Willington Viaduct can be seen further along, carrying the Metro line over the valley. This whole area was heavily industrialised up to the 1980's, when it was cleared and landscaped, and the footpath created along the Gut.
