The 23 acres of ancient woodland here is part of the Chantry Wood complex. It is now an Essex Wildlife Trust reserve. This area largely comprises oak standards. The Trust is managing the wood by coppicing and creating clearings in order to maintain and extend the range of plants in the under-storey typical of ancient woodland in this area.
