The packing platform level of this 65" engine built in 1873 by Jonah and George Davies of Tipton. This shows the false cover over the cylinder head, soft packing on the piston rod and the upper valve chest. The valves are from right to left - governor, steam and equilibrium. The cast iron entablature is seen beyond and the two riveted spring beams are at the top of the picture.
