In the late 1800s, the then Prince of Wales bought this house on Maida Avenue for the famous beauty and actress, Lillie Langtry, who had been the first society woman to appear on the English stage. She became the darling of the social set in London, with countless aristocratic admirers, and pursued a theatrical career, here and in the US, lasting over thirty years.
