This is the gate to the Military Corrective Training Centre at Berechurch Camp Colchester. This is where all the Larcenous Lance Corporals and Recidivist Ratings get sent to serve their custodial sentences if found guilty at a Court Martial. The inmates are referred to as Servicemen Under Sentence, not prisoners. The MOD maintains this is not actually a prison, as in civilian life many of the misdemeanors that send people here would not attract a custodial sentence. A good proportion of the alumni of this training centre are discharged back to their units and have creditable careers in the services.
