Viewed from the south west side. The clock tower was built to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897 and was officially 'opened' at a ceremony attended by the mayor, local dignitaries, a brass band and a large crowd of Ripon's citizens in 1898. The building of the clock tower was entirely funded by two sisters, the Misses Cross. It now stands rather inconveniently in the middle of a busy road junction.
