The older part of Castle Bytham is predominantly stone built. The brick buildings are usually of this bright red colour of a type commonly found to the west in Leicestershire. The opening of a railway station on the Midland Railway line from Melton Mowbray in 1898 probably led to the use of this cheap building material.
