St Oswald's Church was designed by Hubert Austin in 1896 and building of the church was completed in 1899. It was originally a chapel of ease to St James' Church at nearby Stalmine. St Oswald's is designated as a Grade II listed building as a building that is "nationally important and of special interest" (Historic England List Entry Number: 1361844 https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1361844 ). There is a square-plan bellcote with a short spire at the western end of the building.
