Looking west towards Etruria Junction. Planet Lock is No 3 on the Caldon Canal, west of Hanley Park. It is not a deep lock, allowing a rise (or fall) of just 3ft 10in (almost 1·2 metres). This lock is not from the 1770s, but was added to the canal later in order to counteract the problem of subsidence nearby in the Etruria area. Can a local historian please give us a date for this alteration?
