Located in Market Street, this independent family-run cinema first opened its doors in June 1920 as 'The Playhouse', and featured a combined cinema and theatre auditorium as well as retail units and a dance hall. In the 1960s, the main auditorium was converted into a bingo hall and the art-deco façade was covered with contemporary black and white cladding. In 1993, an extensive refurbishment of the building took place and three further screens were installed. The 1960s cladding was then removed, returning the building to its original appearance.
