This pair of 18th century cottages are named Brook Cottage (left) and Peggotty (right). Listed, grade II, with details of Brook Cottage at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1340902 and of Peggotty at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1304401 The Roman road Fosse Way, 230 miles (370km) long, linked Exeter to Lincoln. Here at Fossebridge the road takes a very steep drop of 150 feet (45 metres) to cross the River Coln before climbing equally steeply back to its original height.
