The Artizan (Artisan) Bridge, was built in 1973. It crosses the River Leven allowing the A814 to bypass the town centre. In doing so, it passes through the site of the former Dumbarton Glass Works which dominated the area in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. See Image] for a discussion about the spelling of the bridge’s name (shown as “Artizan”) on the OS map.
