With a magnificent pair of hand-built new lock gates in the foreground and the lock empty and stopped by the planks at the top gate, work is proceeding on repairing the lock walls and ladders. The new ladders are wider than the originals, confirming that the 21st century boater is somewhat larger than his/her 18th century counterpart.
